    Energy communities

    Design and consultancy for the development of R.E.C. Renewable Energy Communities, associations of private and public entities aiming to create systems for production, self-consumption, and sharing of energy from renewable sources.

    In practice, an energy community consists of an association of citizens, businesses, local public administrations, and small/medium enterprises that decide to join forces with the goal of producing, exchanging, and consuming energy from renewable sources at a local level. These associations, recognized thanks to the conversion into law of Decree Milleproroghe 162/2019, are increasingly widespread today, also thanks to the economic incentives that can be obtained for their establishment.

    Energy communities offer great opportunities as their diffusion allows meeting energy needs through new socioeconomic models focused on sustainability and circularity, without resorting to the use of fossil fuels.

    According to estimates by ENEA on energy communities, it is expected that by 2050 approximately 264 million European citizens will become prosumers, with the possibility of generating up to 45% of electricity from renewable sources and achieving climate neutrality.

    Environmental benefits. Energy communities harness renewable energies (especially photovoltaic) instead of fossil fuels. This implies a decrease in harmful carbon dioxide emissions and a direct benefit to the environment. Additionally, it limits network losses thanks to a shorter distance to cover and direct self-consumption by members.

    Social benefits. Energy communities stimulate social aggregation in the territory and promote the dissemination of inclusive and collaborative models. Renewable energy communities stimulate consumer awareness of the importance of resources, promoting virtuous behaviors.

    Economic benefits. Thanks to incentive mechanisms, the community can benefit from an "energy income" to redistribute, namely a remunerative surplus from produced energy. Energy savings translate into reductions in consumption and costs on the bill, to which are added the incentive mechanisms of the GSE.
